Private Sale
(I learned about this sale via a post that Rebecca put on the Meetup Message Board. This is an excerpt of the post, for the entire thing, click on the "post" link above.)

Hello knitters! If you are interested in bargain-priced yarn and knitting supplies, we are having a giant yarn yard sale this Saturday, August 13.

When my boyfriend’s mother passed away recently, he inherited her worldly possessions, which mostly consisted of lots and lots and lots of yarn. She was an avid knitter and avid shopper, and managed to amass about 50 huge boxes of yarn and knitting supplies, enough to fill a storage unit.

Some of the yarn appears to be high-end—I found several receipts for $200 and up for just a few skeins. Lots of the yarn is in groups of enough skeins of the same type/color to knit yourself a sweater, or matching sweaters for your whole family. In addition to the yarn, there are knitting needles galore (several big sets of different types plus lots of individual pairs), an entire library of knitting books, and an electronic knitting machine with tons and tons and tons of attachments and documentation and parts.

Date: Saturday, August 13
Time: 9:30am – 2pm
Location: 5556 Claremont Ave. in the Rockridge district of Oakland.

Stria Washcloths

I'm using the Manos Cotton Stria I bought at Commuknity to knit some washcloths as a house warming gift for a friend who just moved back to CA. I plan to knit two, maybe three different versions. I'm currently working on one in seed stitch.

Manos Cotton Stria Washcloth in Seed Stitch

The yarn label recommends needle sizes 4-6 (US). I started with size 6 needles but the fabric was too flopping and I wanted something firmer so I ripped out and went down to a size 5 needle. It's still more loosely knit then I'd like. Since the yarn is a bit wavy I'm having a hard time pulling it tight while knitting. It's a bit frustrating. I think knitting on my Denise Needles is part of the problem as well. I think I should be using metal needles so the yarn will slide a bit better. It's been really slow going.
